Walk the routes you use most
Follow the path from parking to the front door, and from the kitchen to the spaces you use most often. Notice steps, floor changes, door widths, lighting, and where you would put everyday belongings.
Notice effort as well as space
Consider garden upkeep, stairs, cleaning, storage, and repairs. More space is useful when it serves a purpose you value and fits the maintenance you want to take on.
Bring your own priorities
There is no single checklist that fits everyone. If you have specific access or accommodation needs, describe the features that matter and seek a qualified assessment when measurements or modifications are important.
Check beyond the property line
Try the routes to your own destinations. Verify the availability of any services or programs you rely on directly with the provider. A neighborhood description cannot establish that an individual need will be met.
Save your observations
Use the Home Tour Notes tool after each visit. Record what worked, what did not, and what you still need to ask. Keep your personal priorities at the center of the decision.
